A wine tavern that is more than just an excursion tip for us: we enjoy regional delicacies in the vaulted cellar of Ottenschlag Castle - and we also got married here.
We don't give some recommendations because they are „well rated“ - but because they feel like a piece of home. The wine tavern „Im Schloss“ in Ottenschlag is just such a place for us: our second living room, a place to relax, enjoy and simply „be there“.
And yes - there's a lot of personal stuff in here too: We got married at Ottenschlag Castle many years ago. Since then, every visit has been a small return. Not cheesy - simply genuine.
Vaults instead of arbors - and that's what makes it so special
What makes the „Im Schloss“ wine tavern so unique is the setting: a centuries-old vaulted cellar under the south-east tower - with its very own flair that cannot be recreated.
This is a wonderful contrast, especially on warm days: summer outside in the Waldviertel, cool stones, candlelight and this quiet castle atmosphere inside.

Here you get Typical Heurigen delicacies - hot and cold, prepared from selected foods.
There's also Wine from the Wachau and the Danube region and High proof mainly from the region.

What we really appreciate: The Heuriger is almost exclusively from farmers and businesses in the region supplied.

If you like it outdoors: The Heuriger also has a cozy castle garden, surrounded by flowers - perfect for coffee, dessert or a snack with the family.
Especially great for families: There is also a playground there.
Celebrations in the castle: from cozy to festive
The Heuriger is also a really great location for parties:
- Turmstüberl: space for approx. 60 people
- Vaulted cellar: space for approx. 45 people
And according to the operator: suitable for Birthdays, weddings, company celebrations, seminars or workshops - barrier-free included.

The Heuriger at Ottenschlag Castle is not „just“ a restaurant tip for us - but a place where Waldviertel enjoyment, history and personal memories come together.
