The Fire-Water Garden in Roggenreith spans 7,000 square meters and brings together the elements of earth, air, water, and fire. Tree circle, Druid Playground and the Whiskey Experience make it a special place to visit.
The Fire-Water Garden in Roggenreith is an extraordinary destination for our vacation guests. Spanning approximately 7,000 square meters, the garden combines nature, relaxation, and the four elements that play a special role in the production of whiskey.
The garden is part of the Waldviertel Whiskey Experience and can be perfectly combined with a guided tour of Austria’s oldest whiskey distillery. But families, walkers, and guests who don’t wish to participate in a whiskey tasting can also enjoy an interesting visit here.
The Four Elements of Whiskey
The design of the Fire-Water Garden is inspired by the four elements: earth, air, water, and fire. They symbolize the natural elements from which whiskey is made.
Earth
The soil produces the grain that serves as the basis for Waldviertel whiskey. The area around Roggenreith offers excellent growing conditions, particularly for rye.
Water
Water is essential to the whiskey-making process. It is needed at various stages of production and, together with the grain, distillation, and aging, influences the character of the finished whiskey.
Fire
The fire represents the heat required during the distillation process. Distillation transforms the fermented grain mash into a high-proof spirit, which is later aged in wooden barrels.
Air
The air accompanies the whiskey throughout its years of aging. Through the wood of the barrels, a slow exchange with the surrounding environment takes place, contributing to the development of color and aroma.
Fire-Water Arena and Water Elements
A central feature of the garden is the Fire-Water Arena. Various design elements highlight both the contrast and the interplay between fire and water.
The garden invites visitors to take a leisurely stroll through it and discover its various areas. In this way, the Fire-Water Garden complements the distillery’s technical and culinary experiences with a natural outdoor space.
Celtic Cycle of Life and the Tree of the Year
Another special area is the Celtic cycle of life and the annual tree cycle. In Celtic tradition, trees hold strong symbolic significance and are associated with specific times of the year.
Visitors can stroll through the tree circle and discover their own personal tree of life. The tree circle invites visitors to linger, reflect, and consciously experience nature.
It's exciting for kids, too, to find out which tree corresponds to their birthday.
Druid Playground for Kids
The Fire-Water Garden isn't just for adult whiskey lovers. For younger visitors, there's a public Druid playground and a separate children's area.
While the adults visit the gardens, the shop, or the whiskey café, the children can play on the playground.
What Families Can Expect
- spacious outdoor area
- Public Druid Playground
- dedicated children's area
- Celtic Cycle of Life and the Tree of the Year
- Interesting water features and design elements
- A family-friendly blend of nature and adventure
This makes the Fire-Water Garden a great choice for a family outing.
Whiskey Café with a Terrace
After the tour, visitors can take a break at the whiskey café, which features a terrace. There, they can wrap up their outing in a cozy atmosphere.
The menu features a variety of beverages, coffee, and pastries, subject to availability. Adults can also discover specialties inspired by Waldviertel whiskey.
Anyone who plans to drive afterward should, of course, avoid alcoholic beverages.
Whiskey Shop and Regional Gift Ideas
The attached shop offers a variety of products from the distillery. These include Waldviertel whiskey, liqueurs, gin, tasting sets, and gift sets.
Even if you don't participate in a tasting, you can learn about the various products here or choose a special souvenir from the Waldviertel.
Combining the Fire-Water Garden and the Whiskey Experience World
A visit to the garden can be easily combined with a guided tour of the Waldviertel Whiskey Experience.
On a guided tour, visitors learn how high-quality whiskey is made from locally grown grain and water. The tour takes visitors through the production and storage areas and provides interesting facts about malt, distillation, and barrel aging.
Afterward, various tastings will be offered. Participation in an alcoholic beverage tasting is reserved exclusively for adults.

A day trip for the whole family
The Fire-Water Garden also offers a varied experience for companions, families, and guests who aren't particularly interested in whiskey.
While whiskey enthusiasts take part in a guided tour or tasting, other visitors can explore the garden, discover the Celtic tree circle, or visit the Druid playground with the kids.
This way, the outing can be tailored to the diverse interests of a family or travel group.
