Monday: Arrive and start your vacation

After arriving, you'll first check into your vacation rental. Take some time to unpack your luggage and get a sense of what the next few days will entail.

Check your gear for your first fishing trip and make sure you have all the necessary documents and fishing maps ready. If you plan to buy your maps on site, check the store’s hours of operation before visiting.

A short walk can be a pleasant way to start your stay. Afterward, there will be time to enjoy a meal together and make plans for the next morning.

Our tip: For your first day of fishing, pack only what you actually need. That way, you can get started on Tuesday without having to spend time looking for things.

Tuesday: My first day of fishing at Edlesberger Pond

To get started, you might want to consider the Edlesberger Pond near Gutenbrunn. The municipality lists it as a local fishing spot and provides contact information for questions about fishing there.

Plan your day based on the permitted fishing times and local conditions. On your first visit, it’s a good idea to set aside some time to get your bearings and choose a suitable spot.

Don't automatically plan to spend a whole day by the water. A shorter trip can give you a sense of how well the body of water and the location suit your preferences. If you like it, you can return later in the week.

For more information, please see our Article on Fishing at Edlesberger Pond.

Wednesday: Time for shared vacation experiences

A day without a scheduled fishing trip adds some variety to the week. Use it to go for a walk, visit a nearby town, or enjoy a relaxing stay in Gutenbrunn.

Discuss the preferences of the people accompanying you. Perhaps they’re looking forward to a cultural outing, a stop for refreshments, or some time to take photos. If you have specific destinations in mind, check their current hours of operation and accessibility.

If everyone enjoys fishing, you can also use Wednesday as an extra day for fishing. Be sure to leave enough time for breaks and spending time together, though.

Thursday: Himmelteich and a visit to Ottenschlag

For another day of fishing, you can check out the Himmelteich near Ottenschlag. The travel dates are important: The municipality announces a fishing season from April 1 to October 15. One-day and two-day passes are also available.

If your vacation falls outside of this season, replace the fishing day with another confirmed fishing spot or an excursion. The weekly schedule should be tailored to your actual travel dates.

A visit to Ottenschlag may be of interest to those accompanying you. Plan breaks together and coordinate your return trip in advance.

Our Post about the Himmelteich near Ottenschlag provides an initial overview.

Friday: Fishing trip to Schlesingerteich near Bärnkopf

On Friday, you can plan a trip to Schlesingerteich, provided that fishing is confirmed for your date.

The municipality of Bärnkopf offers one-day and two-day passes. The sales locations listed are the Wackelstein café, the local store, and the municipal office. The municipality also notes that tickets can be purchased online through hejfish.

If possible, get a map before you leave. Also, figure out how to get from the parking lot to your desired fishing spot.

If your companion is coming along, you can plan a break together or a visit to Bärnkopf afterward. Plan any additional activities based on the weather and opening hours.

Saturday: Favorite body of water or backup plan in case of bad weather

After a few days of vacation, you’ll usually have a better idea of which body of water you like best. Saturday is a good day to visit again—provided that permits and fishing conditions allow it.

Maybe you'd like to visit a familiar place again. Or maybe you'd like to make up for a trip you had to postpone.

Having a backup plan makes the whole week more relaxed. If strong winds or rain on Thursday prevent you from visiting, you can change the order of your visits. Therefore, be mindful when purchasing date-specific tickets, and find out in advance what the conditions are if you need to change your plans.

Sunday: Wind down the vacation week in peace

For your last full day of vacation, we recommend keeping your plans light. A short fishing trip, a walk, or a meal together will leave you plenty of time to pack.

Check your equipment and stow sharp objects safely. Then take some time to reflect on the week's experiences.

Perhaps you've discovered a favorite body of water or would like to try a different outing during your next stay. These experiences will help you plan your next vacation.

What You Should Plan Before Your Week of Fishing

Proper preparation involves more than just choosing a body of water. For each planned outing, make sure to:

  • Season and permitted fishing times;
  • Required documents and waterway maps;
  • Permitted methods and fishing regulations;
  • Ticket sales and reservations (if available);
  • Parking, access to the waterfront, and restrooms;
  • Policies regarding children or bringing dogs;
  • Accessibility requirements for individual seats.

If you plan to go fishing for several days, different types of permits may be available. Compare the options based on the visits you actually plan to make. A multi-day permit for one body of water is not automatically valid at other ponds.

Our Recommendation from Anna and Herbert

We recommend planning two or three days of fishing to start with and keeping the remaining days open. That way, you can revisit a body of water while also accommodating the preferences of your travel companions.

If you are traveling with children, a dog, or have limited mobility, you should discuss the specific conditions directly with the property manager. Specific details about the available accommodations will help you make your decision.
