The accessible Truckerhaus in Gutenbrunn, near the Anna & Herbert vacation rentals, is a cultural gathering place with ground-level access for all guests.

The Museum and Stage Trucker House combines the history of Gutenbrunn with a diverse cultural program. In the former Trucker grocery store, vacationers can discover traces of the past, learn more about life in the Weinsbergerwald, and attend select events.

A small house steeped in history

The Truckerhaus features a museum space open to the public that takes visitors on a journey through time Gutenbrunn and invites visitors to explore the Weinsbergerwald. Historical artifacts, pictures, documents, and texts tell the story of life for the people in the region.

Among other things, the exhibition explores:

  • the medieval settlement,
  • the development of Gutenbrunn,
  • the industrialization of the Weinsbergerwald,
  • the Habsburg rule,
  • forestry and wood processing,
  • the history of glassmakers,
  • times of economic crisis,
  • as well as the exodus and depopulation of certain areas.

The focus is not limited to noble families or economically influential figures. The everyday lives of workers, woodcutters, glassmakers, and their families are also vividly depicted.

Glass Art from the Waldviertel at the Truckerhaus

Among the culturally and historically significant themes of the exhibition are the so-called Mildner glasses. These artistically designed glasses are among the most distinctive products of the historic Waldviertel glassmaking tradition.

They are a reminder of a time when glassworks and glassmakers played a decisive role in shaping economic life in the Weinsbergerwald. Back then, wood from the surrounding forests provided the energy needed for glass production.

The Inside-and-Outside Museum

What makes the Truckerhaus special is its concept as an „indoor-and-outdoor museum.“ A visit to the museum doesn’t end at the exit door; it can continue outdoors in Gutenbrunn and in the Weinsbergerwald.

A total of 54 historic sites and artifacts were documented and marked. They tell the story of several centuries of regional history.

Examples of such traces include:

  • old sunken roads and transportation routes,
  • Remnants of former forest railroads,
  • historic timber-floating facilities,
  • former sawmills,
  • Evidence of glass production,
  • medieval fortifications,
  • as well as relics from wartime.

The search for clues begins at the Truckerhaus. Afterward, you can explore selected sites using a hiking map, the book *Spuren*, or geolocation data on your smartphone.

The individual stops are accessible via existing hiking and biking trails. The length, terrain, and difficulty vary depending on the route you choose.

Cabaret, music, movies, and readings

The Truckerhaus is not only a museum but also a stage. Since 1994, the Weinsbergerwald Cultural Initiative has been bringing cabaret and cultural events to the southern Waldviertel.

The program includes, among other things:

  • Cabaret,
  • Concerts and music events,
  • Movie screenings,
  • Readings,
  • Exhibitions,
  • as well as special cultural evenings.

According to the market town, more than 1,400 performances have been staged since its founding. This makes the Klein[st]kunstbühne one of the region’s most notable cultural initiatives.
