Start at the Inhalatorium
The starting point for the loop hike is the Gutenbrunn Inhalatorium. Parking is available at the playground across from the Inhalatorium.
From here, the trail first passes by the curling rink and heads toward the town center. Even this first section is a wonderful opportunity to visit the Gutenbrunner Spring and the pilgrimage church.
Through Historic Gutenbrunn
In the town center, the route passes several points of interest:
- Gutenbrunn Pilgrimage and Parish Church
- Gutenbrunner Spring
- Gutenbrunn Castle
- Municipal Office
- historic houses along the main street
From there, the trail climbs gently past the elementary school and the kindergarten. Above the village, the landscape opens up, and the view extends over Gutenbrunn and the surrounding forests.
View from the Kaiserbankerl
One particularly beautiful spot along the route is the Kaiserbankerl. It’s worth taking a short break here, as its elevated location offers a sweeping view of the town.
Here, the Waldviertel reveals its typical character: gentle hills, vast forests, meadows, and plenty of peace and quiet. The light is especially pleasant in the morning or late afternoon.
Through the Forest to Hanslteich
After the lookout point, the trail leads along gravel paths and through wooded sections. Parts of the route are also used as cross-country ski trails in the winter.
Further along the route, you'll cross State Road L83. You'll then reach the Hansl pond, which lies peacefully between the forest and the meadows. From there, the loop leads back to Gutenbrunn.
At the end of the hike, you can visit the Kneipp trail or the playground near the Inhalatorium.
Is the walking trail suitable for families?
The trail is officially described as easy and family-friendly. Because of its manageable length, it’s well-suited for families with children who can already walk a few kilometers on their own.
Sturdy, all-terrain wheels are recommended for a stroller. On gravel paths, on inclines, and after it rains, certain sections may be more difficult to navigate.
Dogs They can generally be brought along on hikes. Within town limits, when crossing the street, and near wildlife areas or pastures, they should be kept on a leash.
Note for Wheelchair and Walker Users
The walking trail is not explicitly designated as an accessible route. Gravel paths, forest sections, inclines, and the crossing of the L83 may be difficult to navigate with a standard wheelchair or walker.
With an all-terrain mobility aid and an accompanying person, it may be possible to cover individual sections. However, before attempting the full loop, we recommend checking the current trail conditions on site. The trails around the Inhalatorium and in the town center are the more accessible alternative.
What time of year is the best time to take this walk?
The walking trail can generally be enjoyed during different seasons:
- In the spring, meadows and forests come to life.
- In the summer, the wooded areas provide pleasant shade.
- In the fall, the colorful forests create a special atmosphere.
- In winter, accessibility depends on snow and ice conditions.
After heavy rain, forest and gravel trails may be wet or slippery. You should therefore check the current weather and trail conditions before setting out.
