The Hansl pond Gutenbrunn is a tranquil forest pond nestled in the heart of the typical landscape of the southern Waldviertel. Surrounded by dense forest and green shores, it makes for a peaceful stop during a walk or hike around Gutenbrunn.
This isn't about major attractions or entertainment. Rather, its special charm lies in the silence, the reflections on the water, and the close connection to nature.
A small forest pond with a special atmosphere
Hanslteich is located outside the town center in a peaceful wooded area. On the shore there is a small covered wooden pier, which gives the pond its distinctive appearance.
Depending on the time of day, trees and the sky are reflected on the dark surface of the water. Especially in the morning and late afternoon, a very peaceful Waldviertel atmosphere takes hold.
Hanslteich is well suited for:
- a break during a hike
- a short walk in nature
- quiet vacation photos
- Mindful observation of nature
- A short getaway away from busy tourist spots

From Hanslteich, the trail then heads back to Gutenbrunn and the Inhalatorium. According to the official description, the entire loop takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Is Hanslteich a good place for families?
The pond is a lovely destination for families who want to combine a short nature outing with a hike. However, children should always be supervised while on the shore.

For a small picnic, we recommend bringing your own blanket and drinks. Of course, please take your trash home with you.
Note for Seniors, Walkers, and Wheelchairs
Hanslteich Pond and the surrounding trails are not explicitly designated as barrier-free Note: Forest trails, gravel paths, meadows, and damp or uneven areas along the shore can be difficult to navigate with a walker or wheelchair.
Our recommendation:
- Check trail conditions before your visit
- If you have trouble walking, bring someone along to help you
- Wear sturdy, slip-resistant shoes
- Be especially careful after it rains
- If you're in a wheelchair, choose only well-maintained and dry sections
